The Syrian Non-Violence Movement (SNVM) is a non-state, non-governmental, non-profit organization established by a group of Syrian activists in 2012. The guiding principle of the activists was the belief that non-violent activism and civil resistance represented the most effective means to achieve social, cultural and political change.
SNVM believes it is engaged in a long-term struggle to challenge an already embedded propensity amongst Syrian actors to resort to force and violence to advance their views. The efficacy of this approach has only been re-enforced by the present conflict. The way of Non-Violence as practiced around the world in modern times is not just about rejecting violence. It is about taking positive action to challenge oppression and ensure a fairer, more just society for everyone.
As such, SNVM has been involved in initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of the most vulnerable in our society including children and prisoners. The organization is committed to promoting and defending human rights regardless of politics, beliefs and ethnicity.
